American University Cairo student, Mahmoud Ahmed Fahmy has revealed that he is happy to win a medal at the 11th African University Games in Lagos.
Mahmoud won Gold in the Tennis event as the finals delivered an intense and exhilarating competition, showcasing the finest display of sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill.
In the mixed doubles final, the American University in Cairo faced Lagos State University (LASU) in a match that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.
The American University team came out strong, securing the first set with tactical brilliance and exceptional coordination.
However, LASU was determined not to back down, staging a comeback that led to a nail-biting tie.
The match was eventually settled by a game of ten, where the American University team emerged champions, cementing their place as Gold medalists.
Reacting after the win Mahmoud from American University, Cairo revealed that he was happy to win Gold in Lagos.
“I just won the mixed doubles final in the FASU tournament, I’m so happy here it’s been wonderful in Unilag,” he said.
In the women’s doubles, Benson Idahosa University clinched the gold, while the University of Lagos (Unilag) secured silver, and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) earned bronze.
The men’s doubles saw the University of Lagos rising to the occasion, claiming the gold medal, while the University of Ghana walked away with silver.
For the mixed doubles category, LASU claimed silver, the University of Ghana took home bronze, and the American University in Cairo claimed the top spot with their stellar performance, winning gold.
The finals were a highlight of the FASU Games 2024, leaving spectators thrilled and athletes proud of their remarkable achievements.
