Guinea’s Harouna Keita’s quest for Academic and Athletic excellence

Harouna Keita from Université Général Lansana Conté (UGLC) Sinfonia Conakry, Guinea, shared his struggles with juggling school and basketball.

The most valuable Player (MVP) of the game against UNILAG, expressed his excitement about playing outside his country.

This is one of the biggest tournaments he has been to and he’s elated to have been able to make a statement.

He said, “I feel excited about the outcome of the match. I just came here with the hope of performing well and showcasing my talent and I’m happy I was able to make an impact. This is like the biggest tournament I have ever happened to participate in so far, so I wanted to make it count.”

He mentioned that in addition to regular training, he uses his free time for personal practice. This raises the question of how he balances school and basketball, as it appears he rarely has a break.

He said, “It is not so easy as I use my free time for personal training, and sometimes basketball tournaments and competitions clash with school, so I have to work extremely hard to maintain academic excellence. More so, the coach made it possible for us to get extra academic tutoring, just so we can have a balance.”
