11th FASU Games: Defending champions, Kenyatta University knocked out of Football event

The defending champions of the male football event, Kenyatta University have been knocked out of the 11th African University Games in Lagos.

The Kairobi-based University was drawn in Group B alongside Lagos State University (Nigeria), University of Ghana (Ghana) and Federal University, Oye, Ekiti (FUOYE).

On matchday one, Kenyatta University shared spoils with the co-host LASU while FUOYE and the University of Ghana settled for a draw.

LASU defeated their Nigeria compatriot FUOYE 2-1 to record their first win.

LASU initially controlled the match, with Emmanuel Okoro scoring their first goal in the 20th minute. FUOYE equalized with a goal from Teniola Samuel before halftime.

The match then turned into a fast-paced battle for dominance, culminating in LASU securing the win with a late goal from Elijah Ayeni.

On the same day, Kenyatta University secured its first victory by defeating the University of Ghana.

Meanwhile, the final day was filled with drama as FUOYE thrashed the defending champions, Kenyatta, with a 3-0 win, and LASU edged past the University of Ghana.

LASU topped Group B with seven points, followed by FUOYE and Kenyatta with four points each, while the University of Ghana finished with one point.
