FASU Executive Committee meets in Nairobi  

NAIROBI, Kenya – October 3, 2025 – The United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) served as the backdrop for a highly productive and forward-looking Federation of Africa Sports Universities (FASU) Executive Committee meeting today. With the campus poised to welcome athletes for the FASU Kings of Africa University 7s Rugby and FASU Tennis Slam Championships, the meeting room was charged with a similar energy, marked by a full-capacity attendance from all executive Committee members.

Held on the eve of the championships, the gathering was a crucial strategic session to ensure operational excellence for the imminent events while laying a robust foundation for the future of African university sports.

The meeting commenced with a Communication from the FASU President, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, who set a tone of unity and ambition. “The full house we have here today is a powerful symbol of our collective commitment,” Dr. Ashraf Sobhy stated. “As we stand ready to witness the thrilling spectacle of the 7s and tennis, our duty is to ensure that the framework supporting these athletes is as strong and resilient as their competitive spirit.” The President also congraluted the University of Development studies for making history as the champions of the FISU University World Cup Football.

The committee then moved through a structured agenda, beginning with the formal Confirmation of the Minutes of the Previous Meeting and a detailed discussion on Matters Arising. This demonstrated the Federation’s commitment to accountability and follow-through on previous resolutions.

A series of comprehensive reports provided a clear snapshot of the Federation’s health and progress:

  • The Secretariat’s Report outlined the extensive logistical preparations for the Rugby 7s and Tennis Championships, confirming that all systems were operational for a successful event.
  • The Treasurer’s Report presented a stable and transparent financial position, underscoring prudent fiscal management that directly supports athlete development and competition standards.

A key outcome of the meeting was the review and ratification of the FASU Calendar for 2025, providing member universities with a clear roadmap for the remainder of the competitive year.

Looking ahead, the committee engaged in strategic discussions that will shape the future of the federation. Significant focus was placed on the Updates and Roadmap for the FASU Games 2026.

Furthermore, the agenda expanded to FASU Events 2026 and Beyond, initiating early conversations on long-term strategic goals, including the potential introduction of new competition format like having regional tournaments to qualify teams to the FASU Continental qualifying events and sustainable partnership models to elevate the profile of African university sports on the global stage.
