Cairo Welcomes FISU President on Official Visit to Strengthen Joint Cooperation

As part of ongoing efforts to reinforce Egypt’s leading role at both the African and international levels in university sports, Ashraf Sobhy, President of the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU), welcomed Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), during his official visit to Cairo.

The FISU President was accompanied by Delise O’Meally, a member of the FISU Executive Committee. The visit aimed to discuss avenues for supporting and advancing the university sports ecosystem, as well as reviewing future plans and preparations for upcoming African and international university sports championships.

The high-level delegation was also received by Ahmed Nasser, President of the Association of African Sports Confederations (UCSA), who underscored the importance of strengthening coordination among FISU, FASU, and sports federations across Africa to broaden participation in university sports and encourage greater engagement among students.

Discussions focused on the strategic vision adopted by Egypt and African institutions to advance university sports, with particular emphasis on promoting health and wellness initiatives through the Healthy Campus program. The meeting also highlighted the pivotal role of the Federation of Africa University Sports headquarters in Cairo as a regional hub dedicated to supporting young athletes and fostering sports development across the continent.

For his part, Dr. Leonz Eder expressed his pleasure at visiting Cairo, commending Egypt’s world-class sports infrastructure and the significant support provided by the country’s leadership for sports development, particularly within the university sports sector. He also praised Egypt’s growing contribution to the advancement of university sports at both the African and global levels.
