Lagos State University striker, Emmanuel Okoro has confirmed that his goal against Federal University Oye Ekiti was inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo.

LASU men’s football team bounced back from a draw in their first match at the 11th All Africa University Games to defeat FUOYE in a crowded LASU Sports Center, 2-1.

In the 10th minute, Okoro Emmanuel opened the scoring for LASU with a goal of the tournament contender powerful volley.

Teniola Samuel equalized for FUOYE in the 38th minute through a goalmouth scramble.

The second half saw both teams battle for the winning goal, but it was Aiyeni Elijah’s late strike that secured the victory for LASU.

After the game, Okoro nicknamed Vardy disclosed that he learned from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner who has continued to inspire his games.

Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time.

“Today is a great day for me, the goal was just my instinct immediately i got the pass i just had to decide what to do with the ball. I am been following Ronaldo and i am happy to model my game after him because learning from the best gives me the best performance,” he said.

Kenyatta University tops Group A with four points, level with LASU but ahead on goal difference. FUOYE is third, followed by the University of Ghana.

On Tuesday, LASU will face the University of Ghana in the final group-stage match.
