It was a moment of Pride and responsibility for students selected to be their school’s flag bearer at the African University Games, a moment of immense pride at the opening ceremony of the 11th African University Games in Lagos.

Over 3000 students showcased their institutional culture at the University of Lagos Sports complex.

Being a flag bearer is more than just carrying a piece of cloth, it’s about representing the entire institution.

As the flag bearer walks at the front of the procession, they carry the weight of their school’s hopes and dreams.

Norman Brown from Nkumba University in Uganda revealed that it’s an opportunity for him to embody his school’s values, spirit, and aspirations.

“This is an opportunity for me to carry my school value and spirit, I am happy to be the Flag bearer of my school, it is what most people will want to do,” Brown echoed.

Adding to the heat, Lyambai Lyambai a student of Levy Mwanawasa Medical University from Zambia disclosed that it is a dream that come true.

He added, “It’s a chance for me to make a lasting impression and leave a legacy at the university. It’s a moment i will forever cherish for years to come because it is a dream come true for me.”

For Tafadzwa Butete, a student at Midlands State University in Zimbabwe it is a moment to celebrate personal achievements and to be a source of inspiration for others.

“Being the Flag bearer is a moment for me to celebrate my achievements and it will serve as a source of inspiration for others,” he said.

Several dignitaries were present at the Opening Ceremony including Dr Ashraf Sobby, President of FASU, who declared the games open.
