FASU conducts first Executive Committee meeting in 2024

The Executive Committee convened for its maiden meeting on January 17, 2024. The members, dispersed across various locations, utilized video conferencing technology to engage in crucial discussions regarding the FASU Events Calendar 2024.

The FASU President Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, extending a warm welcome to the committee, initiated the meeting by emphasizing FASU’s commitment to the advancement and cultivation of university sports in Africa. He underscored the organization’s dedication to providing a conducive environment for youth engagement in sports and cultural activities.

Key discussions during the session were steered by Ms. Peninnah A. Kabenge, the Secretary General, who began by announcing that Nigeria had graciously agreed to host the 11th FASU Games in Lagos, scheduled to take place from September 20th to 29th, 2024. The Secretary General went on to outline the comprehensive time-frame for the Games, including a detailed breakdown of all sporting events and the financial plan essential for the successful execution of the Games.

The Executive Committee delved into the FASU Events Calendar for the year 2024, which encompassed significant programs such as the FASU Games International Volunteering Program, FASU Youth Leadership Training and Mentorship Program, the Vice Chancellors Forum, 4th FISU-NUSF Seminar, and the Qualifier for the FISU University World Cup. Additionally, the Continuous Professional Development Program is set to commence this year.

Committee members foresee diligent follow-up and detailed reporting to ensure seamless implementation of plans, aligning with FASU’s vision. Successful execution of these initiatives is poised to strengthen FASU’s role in fostering and enhancing university sports in Africa.
