The University of Ghana’s volleyball team delivered a stellar performance to defeat the University of Lagos (UNILAG) 3-0 in their highly anticipated encounter to win FASU gold medal.

The Ghanaian side asserted their dominance from the outset, securing a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-21, 25-19). UNILAG struggled to contain the University of Ghana’s attacking threats.

Set-by-Set Breakdown

1st Set: University of Ghana took the first set 25-14, showcasing exceptional teamwork and attacking prowess.

2nd Set: UNILAG rallied, narrowing the deficit to 25-21, but the University of Ghana maintained their momentum.

3rd Set: The Ghanaian side sealed the victory with a convincing 25-19 win.

Speaking with Andy Elvis of the University of Ghanian team, he expressed his delight and praised his team’s cohesion,  “Our players executed the game plan perfectly. We knew they were a very tough opponent so we prepared really well”

The 300-level student of BA sports and Physical cultural studies, when asked on how he combines both education and volleyball.

He said “It is very tough to combine both but as a student and an athlete you just have to find a way to juggle both”

Meanwhile, UNILAG’s John Silas expressed his feelings about the game, “We would go harder in forthcoming competitions, We used the first set to study their gameplay, but the remaining two sets we made lot of errors as a team that I don’t want to dwell into that.”

Silas a 300-level student of Human Kinetics and Health Education, said, “My department is sport-related and Volleyball is something I love, so I keep pushing. Sometimes I skip classes for practice because of the love and passion I have for the game”

The University of Ghana team celebrated their gold medal victory with jubilation, proudly holding aloft their national flag.
