Kampala, July 10, 2024 — The 6th Afro Varsity 3×3 Basketball Challenge is gearing up for an exhilarating showdown at Makerere University, scheduled to take place from July 27th to 28th, 2024. This prestigious event promises to unite universities from across Africa in a display of skill and teamwork on the basketball court.
Teams from 10 countries have already signed up for the challenge, including representatives from Libya, Uganda, Egypt, Kenya, Burundi, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Botswana. Each team will compete for the chance to qualify for the FISU World Cup, where the top two teams in both the men’s and women’s categories will earn the honor of representing Africa at the 2024 FISU University World Cup 3×3 basketball in Xiamen, China, from November 22nd to 24th.
The tournament operates on a university basis, with each participating team comprised of up to four registered students aged between 17 and 25 years. This format ensures a dynamic and competitive environment where young athletes can showcase their talents on an international stage.
Building on the success of previous editions, which saw American University in Cairo and University of Cape Coast clinching the championship titles in the women’s and men’s categories respectively, this year’s event is expected to deliver high-level basketball action and fierce competition.
