The Egyptian University Sports Federation (EUSF) has promised to mobilise many more universities to participate in the 9th FASU Games this July at Mekelle University, Ethiopia. This was revealed by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Secretary General of EUSF during a meeting with FASU Executive Committee member and Internal Auditor, Liberty Maidza, at Cairo University in Cairo-Egypt.
Mr. Maidza paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Ashraf and the EUSF secretariat to discuss Egypt’s participation in the FASU activities, and also explain FASU’s programs and plans. It was a great discussion with one of Africa’s university sports giants who were overall champions of the 7th FASU Games Nairobi 2014, but never participated in the 8th FASU Games South Africa 2016. The promise of their return with a large delegation is good news to the continent, since Egypt presents a great competition in at this stage. Other issues discussed included the possibility of Egypt hosting one of the next editions of the games or championships.
Over 3000 athletes from universities across Africa are expected to compete at these games. The five day event is scheduled to run from the 2nd – 6th July this year and will attract athletes competing in Athletics, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Tennis. Participation is by individual universities from Africa. Student Athletes from a recognized degree awarding institution (no matter their nationality) can be registered by their institutions.
