The Local organizing committee for the forthcoming 9th All Africa University Games 2018 presented its status report on the preparations and structures to the FASU representatives, in the company of representatives from host NUSF.
The progress reporting session, held on 22nd March 2018 was attended by the entire LOC and subcommittee members, whose representative took FASU through the various stages of work so far done. Giving the opening remarks, Prof. Kindeya, President of Mekelle University thanked FASU for awarding them an opportunity to host the games, and promised full commitment to the success of the games, a statement that was very evident in the actions and activity witnessed. Commendable progress has been made in mobilizing resources and he believes with the closer supervision by FASU, all will be put to the best for the development of the games.
In his remarks, Prof. Jacob S. Nteere the 2nd Vice President of FASU reminded the Hosts of their deep responsibility to raise local awareness and reaffirmed FASU’s continued support in all technical and follow-up areas.
Over 3000 athletes from universities across Africa are expected to compete at these games. The five day event is scheduled to run from the 2nd – 6th July this year and will attract athletes who will compete in Athletics, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Tennis. Participation is by individual universities from Africa. Student Athletes from a recognized degree awarding institution (no matter their nationality) can be registered by their institutions.
