The International Youth Fellowship (IYF) is undertaking training of 1000 volunteers in preparation for the forthcoming 9th FASU Games in Mekelle, Ethiopia. IYF, a Christian based international NGO with a vision of raising leaders, has been working with the organizing committee to ensure that the local students, together with over 100 foreign volunteers are prepared to receive the athletes, in July 2018.
Speaking at a briefing, the representative of IYF said they were glad to be working with Mekelle University and the people of Ethiopia to not only train volunteers for the games, but to contribute to the change of mindsets for the youths. He was positive that the games will be a time for the celebration of the cultural diversity of Africa.
IYF trained the volunteers for the 28th Summer Universiade - Gwangju 2015 among many other international events. This gives assurance that all participants shall be in able hands.
The five day event is scheduled to run from the 2nd – 6th July this year and will attract athletes who will compete in Athletics, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Tennis. Participation is by individual universities from Africa. Student Athletes from a recognized degree awarding institution (no matter their nationality) can be registered by their institutions.
