While taking the facilities inspection team from FASU around the university, Dr. Kessatie Legesse the Director of Student Service Centre emphasized Mekelle University’s determination to create a lasting legacy from hosting these FASU Games. The Facilities put up will always be a memorial of the impact the FASU Games. This he said on Wednesday 21st March 2018.
Without doubt, Mekelle University has done a lot in the construction, upgrade and renovation of sports facilities and the entire university layout. The university is definitely under construction. And the purpose is one 9th FASU Games July 2018.
From the multipurpose indoor dome, two 35,000 seat prototype stadia with track, several paved multipurpose outdoor courts and conference rooms to the university perimeter wall, main entrance and other facilities, Mekelle University totally impressed the inspection team. There is definitely no challenge in regards to availability of completion venues. And considering the progress, we are certain all will be ready on time.
According to Ms. Peninnah Kabenge Aligawesa, the good will we have observed here and the warm hospitality by the Ethiopian people is exceptional. The Games have been embraced by all decision makers.
The five day event is scheduled to run from the 2nd – 6th July this year and will attract athletes who will compete in Athletics, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Tennis. Participation is by individual universities from Africa. Student Athletes from a recognized degree awarding institution (no matter their nationality) can be registered by their institutions.
