Universities from all over Africa are steadily registering to participate in the forth coming 9th All Africa University Games scheduled for 2nd - 6th July 2018 at Mekelle University in Ethiopia as the deadline approaches.
The official launch of the Games Logo and the online registration portal for the games, commonly known as the 9th FASU Games July 2018 in February by the organizing committee and FASU opened door for any to register. The design is inspired by the map of Africa embellished with the green, yellow and red of the Ethiopia flag and a star depicting the position of the host nation.
Both new and old previous participants are engaging, with excitement around new entrants University of Mauritius making their maiden appearance at both the games and FASU events. Nigeria, which has not competed in the last 5 editions of the games, is making a comeback with entries from the University of Ilorin, University of Ibadan, and the University of Lagos. According to Mr. B. A. ORODELE the secretary general of the Nigerian university sports association (NUGA), they are mobilizing as many universities as possible before the deadline.
The five day event is scheduled to run from the 2nd – 6th July this year and will attract athletes who will compete in Athletics, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Tennis. Participation is by individual universities from Africa. Student Athletes from a recognized degree awarding institution (no matter their nationality) can be registered by their institutions.
